THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE CHURCH MOVEMENT

INTRODUCTION

Here are some important points about the role of the Holy Spirit in motivating believers to witness.

CONTENT

1.     The Holy Spirit as the driving force of the mission:

  • The Holy Spirit gives believers power and courage to be witnesses of Christ, even to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8, 2:14-17).

  • He determines the strategy and pace of evangelism and leads believers to proclaim the gospel (Acts 15:22). In the early days, they cast lots.

  • Without the Holy Spirit, believers cannot effectively testify of God's love and glory (Romans 8:15, because we now enjoy a pure relationship of love and power from our Father in heaven).

2.     The Holy Spirit as Helper and Comforter:

  • Jesus called the Holy Spirit the “Comforter” who will be with believers forever (John 14:26).

  • The presence of the Holy Spirit gives a sense of security, calmness, and helps in prayer, especially when one is feeling weak (Acts 4:23-24, 31).

  • He helps believers move from a selfish prayer life to a prayer life where they pray for others.

3.     Holy Spirit as Leader and Guide:

  • The Holy Spirit guides believers into all truth and reminds them of the word of God (John 14:26)

  • He testifies of the truth and guides in making decisions (Acts 1:8).

  • He can also protect against physical and spiritual dangers (Acts 5:12-16).

CONCLUSION

The importance of the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer begins with the transformation of character so that he or she may be an effective witness for Christ.
