KEEP BELIEVING

INTRODUCTION

Life can be filled with fear and worry about what will happen in the future. But I am reminded of the story of Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:35-41).

CONTENT

In the reading above, there are several things that caught my attention.

  1. We need to realise that even though the disciples were with Jesus in the boat, it did not mean that their journey would be smooth, without obstacles or difficulties.

God never promised that when we follow Him, there will be no challenges, no problems and everything will be safe. No!

What God promised is ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ (Hebrews 13:5b). No matter what our circumstances are, God is always with us.

  2. Jesus was moved by our cries.

Why was Jesus sleeping when the situation was so chaotic with waves crashing against the boat? For Jesus, the waves and the storm were not a problem.

Why did Jesus finally wake up? Jesus did not wake up because of the storm, but because His disciples cried out for help. That is what moved His heart, because Jesus loved them so much, and he loves us too.

We know that in the end, Jesus rebuked the wind and told the sea to be still. Then the wind died down and the sea became completely calm.

  3. Jesus is Present

Jesus turned to His disciples and reminded them that they were actually with Him in the boat. Yes, we often forget that when we are going through difficult struggles, Jesus is never far away. He is with us and never leaves us.

‘Do not be afraid!’ Because the God who walks with us is a God who is stronger than any problem we face.

CONCLUSION

‘Whatever problems and struggles we face, even as we carry out God's vision, the answer and solution are already within us—His name is Jesus!’
