21 Days of Daniel Fasting

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DANIEL FAST

  1. The fast will take place from Monday, September 8, through Sunday, September 28, 2025.

  2. During this time, let us pray especially for:

    • The 30th anniversary celebration of FMC, and

    • Faith to believe God for the purchase of our own church building.

  3. We encourage you to set aside distractions. Please avoid entertainment such as TV shows, movies, internet browsing, games, and other activities that may pull your heart away from God.

  4. Join us in the Prayer Room whenever possible.

  5. If, for health reasons, your doctor advises against fasting, or if during the fast you begin to feel unwell or weak, please stop. Your health is important. You may still fully participate by devoting yourself to prayer.

  6. Here are some ways you can practice the fast:

    • Option A: Eat only vegetables and fruit for the full 21 days, as Daniel did (Daniel 1, Daniel 10, Isaiah 52, Matthew 6).

    • Option B: Eat only vegetables and fruit until noon, or until 4:00 p.m., or until 6:00 p.m., and then break your fast with a normal meal.

    • Option C: Do a complete fast (no food and/or drink) until noon, or until 4:00 p.m., or until 6:00 p.m., and then eat a normal meal.

    • Option D: Do a complete fast until noon, 4:00 p.m., or 6:00 p.m., and when you break your fast, eat only vegetables and fruit.

LIVING THE DANIEL FAST

Scripture doesn’t give us many details about exactly how Daniel fasted, but from his example we can learn some guiding principles.

What you may eat:

  • All vegetables (spinach, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, etc.)

  • All fruits (apples, bananas, grapes, oranges, etc.)

  • Whole grains (oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat pasta)

  • Nuts and legumes (almonds, peanuts, kidney beans)

  • Drink only water

What to avoid:

  • All meats (red meat, chicken, fish)

  • Animal products (milk, cheese, eggs, butter, honey)

  • Processed foods (with additives, preservatives, or artificial colors)

  • Soft drinks and alcohol

Preparing for the fast:

  • A few days before, begin eating lighter (reduce sugar, avoid coffee).

  • Make a shopping list of natural, whole foods.

  • Prepare simple meals such as soups, salads, and rice dishes.

  • Let those around you know you are fasting – this brings encouragement and support.

A suggested daily rhythm:

  • Morning: Quiet time, prayer, reading God’s Word

  • Midday: Pause for a short prayer, give thanks over your meal

  • Evening: Longer time in prayer, worship, and journaling

  • Throughout the day: Keep turning your heart to God with short prayers and reflections

A Word of Encouragement

Take these 21 days as an opportunity to seek God’s presence with fresh hunger. Use this time to pray, reflect on His Word, and write down what the Holy Spirit speaks to you.

Let us enter this fast together with expectation, longing for God’s presence, and unity as brothers and sisters in Christ.

God is faithful—He will move powerfully in us and through us!

With love and prayer,
Ps. Victor & Ps. Vivie Faraknimella
