JESUS LOVED HIS DISCIPLES

INTRODUCTION

After Jesus rose from the dead, He did not immediately ascend to heaven, but appeared to His disciples for 40 days.

CONTENT

This was the purpose of His meetings with His disciples, who would eventually be called the Apostles of the LORD.

  1. To prove His physical resurrection

Jesus wanted to assure His disciples that He was truly alive, not a ghost or merely a spirit. He showed them the wounds in His hands and side, and even ate with them to prove the resurrection of His body (John 20:24-29).

  2. To restore and strengthen the disciples’ faith

After the crucifixion, the disciples were filled with fear, despair and were scattered. Jesus met with them to strengthen their shattered morale and restore their faith.

  3. Reconciliation (restoration of relationships)

Jesus met with the disciples, including Peter, who had once denied Him, to demonstrate His forgiveness and love. He restored their relationship and reaffirmed that they remained His friends and messengers.

  4. Giving the Great Commission and teaching

During those 40 days, Jesus spoke about the Kingdom of God and gave His final command (the Great Commission) to preach the Gospel to the whole world.

  5. Preparing them for ministry (consolidation)

Jesus gathered His disciples, who had previously scattered (returning to their fishing trade), to train them once more before He ascended to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION

In short, Jesus met with His disciples to turn their fear into courage and prepare them to continue His mission in the world.
