ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE HAS EATEN ME UP

INTRODUCTION

The word 'eaten up' has two meanings: to give one’s all and to take decisive action (John 2:17, Psalm 69:9).

CONTENT

  1. The price of love

The word ‘eaten up’ means that His love for God is so great that He is willing to be ‘consumed’, to make the ultimate sacrifice, even to the point of facing rejection, suffering and the cross, all to restore humanity’s relationship with God.

Thus, we who have experienced the Lord’s love and sacrifice should have an even greater longing for the Lord and seek to please Him.

  2. Burning Zeal (zeal)

Jesus’ burning love and zeal (zèlos) for His Father meant He could not stand idly by whilst the holiness of God’s house was defiled (Matthew 21:12–17).

  3. The House of God Today

In the New Testament, the house of the Lord is not merely a physical building, but refers to Jesus Himself (His body) and the lives of believers as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).

CONCLUSION

Let us love and build the house of the Lord, His Church.
